Reporting Metrics from your ESP and LiveIntent - LiveIntent Knowledge Base

Reporting Metrics from your ESP and LiveIntent

Reporting Metrics from your ESP and LiveIntent

Below, you’ll find a breakdown of reporting metrics relative to both your Email Service Provider (ESP) and LiveIntent reporting.

As a general rule of thumb: if you’re looking for metrics related to the performance of your email campaign, you should reach out directly to your ESP

Why doesn’t LiveIntent provide all the reporting?

LiveIntent’s tags are only a small portion of your email newsletters. Since we do not send your mail, we do not have insight into most of the metrics associated with your campaign.

Metrics from Your ESP

While reporting and measurement can differ across the hundreds of ESPs out there, there are standard metrics that each should provide.

Because there are many terms and metrics, we’ve listed the most popular below. Reach out to your ESP for something that you don’t see here!

ESP MetricDefinition
Bounce Rate

The percentage of total emails sent that could not be delivered to the recipient’s inbox, known as a “bounce”

Clicks

Reports on all links in the email

CTR

Click-through rate based on any link in the email

Delivery Rate

The percentage of the emails that were delivered compared to the number that bounced

Hard Bounces

This bounce rejection reason from the recipient’s mail server indicates a permanent delivery failure. Retried delivery attempts will not be successful. An example of a hard bounce is a bad email address.

Tip! LiveIntent recommends removing/suppressing email addresses from your list after one hard bounce

Open Rate

A measure of how many people on an email list open, or view a specific email

Soft Bounces

This bounce rejection reason from the recipient’s mail serve indicates a transient delivery failure. Retried delivery attempts may be successful

An example of a soft bounce is a full mailbox

Total Delivered

The total number of emails, minus hard and soft bounces

Total Emails Delivered

The number of emails that were actually delivered to recipients’ inboxes and is calculated by subtracting hard and soft bounces from the total number of emails sent

Total Emails Sent

The aggregate number of emails sent

Total Opens

Every instance of a recipient opening an email.

For example: If one person opens the same email five times, it will be reported as five opens instead of one)

Unique Opens

Signifies that no matter how many times a single person opens the same email, it counts only as one time

Unsubscribe Rate

The number of subscribers who click on the “unsubscribe” link in an email and opt-out of future messages from that sender
